SP_302907_HO_ABUSE_20.Times files, March 1968.. A Florida School for Boys staff member feeds a boy a meal through a slot in the door to his cell in a 1968 file photograph. Then superintendent Lennox Williams admitted that conditions at the school were not ideal. ''I know some are harmed by their experience here,'' he told a St. Petersburg Times reporter in 1968, ''But what can we do?'' A year after this picture was taken a Christian Science Monitor reporter visited the school and found a 16 year old boy in solitary confinement who had eaten a light bulb then used a piece of glass pried from a light fixture to gash his arm.
