Federal transportation officials today announced that the Keys 110-mile-long thoroughfare, with 42 bridges spanning over water, was one of five highways to receive an All-American Road designation. Thus far, 31 American roads, which were judged based on national significance, considered a "destination unto itself' and contain features that do not exist elsewhere, are designated as All-American by the National Scenic Byways program directed by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
