Feb 17, 2009 - Quincy, Massachusetts, USA - Shepard Fairey artwork pasted onto a wall in the Fort Point district of South Boston. Fairey, who started out as a street artist with a background in skateboarding, has seen his fame and notoriety accelorate recently with his famous 'Obama Hope' design, used as a poster in Barack Obama's election campaign. The same design has graced the cover of Time Magazine and has since been purchased by the US National Portrait Gallery for their permanent collection. Fairey, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, first gained notoriety in the 1990s for his 'Andre the Giant has a Posse' sticker campaign, followed by his 'OBEY Giant' campaign which encouraged people to question all forms of media. Ironically, despite becoming a counter-culture icon. In February of 2009 Fairey's first solo museum show opened at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts
