Obama nominates special envoy on North Korean human rights issues
President Barack Obama is nominating a new special envoy on North Korean human rights issues.
The White House announced on Thursday the nomination of Robert King, a one-time congressional aid on the House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee. King will hold the rank of ambassador.
The last diplomat in the post, during the former Bush administration, was Jay Lefkowitz. He ran afoul of then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice by criticizing the six-nation talks aimed at persuading the North Koreans to give up their nuclear weapons program.
