While the left continues to attack anything and everything they find offensive, Dukes of Hazzard fans have begun to fight back by starting a petition on Change.org to bring the iconic show back to television. Gathering thousands of signatures per hour, supporters of the show are demanding Viacom, Warner Bros., and TV Land stop the political correct nonsense and bring back the show they argue features something missing from shows… Family values.
Excerpts from the Change.org petition:
For well over 30 years, the Confederate flag has adorned the roof of the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard tv show. The Dukes of Hazzard was a show about values, morals and principles not about racism and hate!!! Fans of the show know what the show is all, about and what the Confederate flag really stands for: southern pride and values not racism or hate!!
Since the Dukes of Hazzard aired in the late 70s, there has never been a controversy about the Confederate flag on Dukes of Hazzard merchandise or having it air on tv, until now, because of some psychopath who killed 9 people in a South Carolina church, that had a tiny Confederate flag on his license plate. The killer is the one responsible for the racism and hate he has shown not the flag or the citizens who live in the south!!! Do not give in to the political correctness lunacy.
The Dukes was about family values, fighting corruption, helping friends, neighbors and even strangers… no matter what color they were… Its time to draw the line in the sand and say enough is enough, and Political Correctness has gone too far… Bring back this TV show that had family values, a family that prayed before dinner, went to church on Sunday, and that was always willing to help ANYONE in need… even their enemy, when the need arose… and their trusty indestructible car that was almost always there to help them help others, when needed… the General Lee.
*** 1:30pm UPDATE: Dukes fans completely take over TVLands Facebook page, posting thousands of comments in support of shows return ***
Upset over its abrupt cancellation, Dukes of Hazzard fans are demanding the corporate parent of TVLand immediately restore the iconic program to its daily schedule.
Supporters of the show have been flocking to the Stop Banning Dukes of Hazzard Change.org petition, with signatures increasing at a rate of thousands per hour. In just an hour of monitoring its progress, the Media Equalizer watched its total number rise from 25,000 to 33,000, already close to reaching its stated goal of 35,000.(3pm update: total over 44,000)
The sudden ban on Dukes-related merchandise and programming was one of the more extreme effects of a crackdown on Confederate-related imagery after the Charleston church massacre in June that left nine dead. The only clear connection is a flag painted on top of the car used in the show, the General Lee.
Also boosting the petition is an outcry from the actors that appeared on the show, including John Schneider and former Democratic Congressman Ben Jones, who played Cooter and now runs a museum dedicated to it.
