In a surprising but welcome development to many concerned Texans, Governor Greg Abbott (R) today called out the Texas State Guard to monitor Barack Obamas planned Operation Jade Helm 2015 military incursion.
The massive, multi-state special warfare exercise is set to start in July and run through September, and has prompted wide concern among the residents of the states involved, both because of the lack of transparency or communication from the Obama Administration, but also concerns about possible nefarious actions JH15 might entail.
In a letter sent on Tuesday (full letter here), Abbott tasked Major General Jake Betty, Commander of the Texas State Guard, with monitoring the operation and reporting back to the Governor for the duration of the exercise. Citing Texas long history of supporting military forces, Gov. Abbott said he is taking this action to ensure Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed.

Abbotts action follows a very contentious meeting in Bastrop, Texas, this week. Bastrop, a town of 7,000 people, has been on edge regarding Jade Helm for weeks, and militarys statements in the meeting did not ease many concerns. As one local reporter detailed:
The community meeting called by the mayor on Monday showed the deep distrust of the residents of Bastrop. The military brass basically told the people they couldnt do a thing about Operation Jade Helm, during which the military will roam the private land of residents without permission for three months.
On the internet, concern over JH15 has reached a near-fever pitch, with some critics fearing the exercises may be a pretext for:
- Declaring martial law in some southwestern states.
- Using the military to confiscate firearms.
- Bringing in United Nations troops for training for potential future actions, along the lines that Obama himself has hinted.
Trust of the Federal government and of Obama specifically is at an all-time low in Texas, in particular after his engineered border crisis last year that deliberately brought hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens 1/3 of them criminals across the Texas border.
Above: In the Jade Helm plan, Texas is considered hostile territory for the purposes of the exercises.
And though some see Abbotts move as mere lip service, his unusual choice of the Texas State Guard a unit few outside the state have ever heard about is a fascinating one.
That is because the Federal government has no authority over the Texas State Guard, unlike the Texas National Guard, which can be federalized at any time.
Abbott has specifically chosen a totally independent entity that answers only to him, to watch Obamas military as they carry out this massive and unprecedented action.
As Rob Milford details it, the Texas State Guard is unique to Texas:
It traces its linage back to Stephen F. Austin forming local militias as early as 1823. It is considered an all-volunteer backup for the Texas National Guard. It has also been used is disaster situations, and assisted with traffic control at various events. It includes military police, civil affairs officers, maritime units, aviation unites, engineering units and medical units.
At the time of this writing, the Texas State Guard has not announced any specifics on how they will staff or monitor the training exercise.
The Defense Department has posted this description of Jade Helm 15:
Operation Jade Helm 15 is a planned military exercise that will be led by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and will include personnel from the U.S. Army Special Forces Command (Green Berets), U.S. Navy SEALS, U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command, USMC Marine Special Operations Command, USMC Marine Expeditionary Units, the 82nd Airborne Division and civilian interagency partners. This Operation will take place over an eight-week period beginning in July of 2015 in locations across the State of Texas and neighboring states New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah and Colorado.
We will report further details as they become available, but we salute Gov, Abbott for responding to the concerns of his citizens, and in particular, they deep mistrust of Barack Obama.
And they are not alone. According to last Augusts CNN poll, an all-time high of 87% of Americans simply do not trust their own government nor mainstream media as truthful or credible.
