Before rocking the crowd and blowing the judges minds with an incredible Duck Dynasty themed dance number on Monday nights Dancing With the Stars, Sadie Robertson delivered a powerful message defending her faith and standing up for family patriarch Phil Robertson during her introduction video package.
Phil gained national attention earlier this year when A&E suspended him after the PC Police got offended by the elder Robertson expressing his thoughts on homosexuality.
In her video package, Sadie explains that regardless of what her grandfather said, the family wouldve supported him because families stick together.
In a video package that aired before the performance, the 17 year old said that her most memorable year was 2012 when Duck Dynasty exploded in popularity.
I didnt realize how big it was going to be, she said.
Fame and fortune aside, Robertson made it clear that the familys Christian faith is its driving force, carrying its members through both the good and the bad times.
My family would not be where we are without our faith. Thats whats carried us this whole way, she said. You know, we put our faith in God and we like to share that with everybodyShe added, Were going to be a family, were going to love each other and were going to do what God says to do.
While Robertson described the benefits of fame in the footage, she also addressed some of the pitfalls, specifically the controversy surrounding her grandfather Phil Robertsons past comments about homosexuality.
Everybody knows who you are and theyre looking for you to mess up, she said of fame. My grandpa said some things that upset some people and the press came after him. Robertson said that it was difficult watching her grandfather get attacked and that the controversy following his December 2013 comments led the family to reconsider doing Duck Dynasty.
The thing is, no matter what he would have said we should have stuck by him, because hes my grandpa, Sadie said. Yeah, hes very opinionated, but hes my family and family sticks together.
In a day and age where dysfunctional families have been accepted as the norm, its awesome to see a family like the Robertsons have such a huge impact on modern culture. Theres little doubt Sadies comments will ruffle a few feathers (see what I did there), but thats okay. Faith and family are subjects that Americans should be having a healthy discussion and debate about and the only way to do that is for folks like Sadie and the rest of the Robertson clan to stand boldly for what they believe and throw political correctness under the bus.
