Youve probably been hearing about and seeing semicolon tattoos all over the place. Whats it all about? Is it some new trend? Is it the next ice bucket challenge? Not exactly. Its not a passing fad, and youll be on board when you hear about its meaning.
In the summer of 2013, Amy Bleuel lost her father to suicide. In her grief, she got this tattoo to remember him always.
She had a semicolon tattooed to her body because of the symbolism it carried in her depression. A semicolon is used when an author couldve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.
Not long after, she began Project Semicolon, a project geared toward helping people struggling with depression.
According to the website, Project Semicolon is a faith-based non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and love to those who are struggling with depression, suicide, addiction and self-injury. [PS] exists to encourage, love and inspire.
